WHITEHEADS RFC (NEWPORT) TO PAY A SOCIAL VISIT TO
50 members of Whiteheads Rugby Club from Newport in South Wales will be paying a social visit to Corston on Saturday May 10th as their end of season 'social' day out.

Older members of the club will remember the epic 1st and 2nd XV matches during the 1970's between The Cranes and Whiteheads who were linked to the now defunct iron and steel works.

The famous welsh row of Faulkner, Windsor and Price played for Whiteheads before moving on to Pontypool and of course Wales and the British Lions and indeed played on many occasions against Stotherts and often on the losing side.

I can personally remember 'working one in' on Charlie Faulkner to which a voice on the touchline stated -
He's hit Charlie - he'll be sorry. I did get a few back but all in a good cause

Whiteheads not only guaranteed a hard match but great hospitality in their clubhouse at the ground and their social clubhouse in the centre of Newport which was conveniently next door to a night club.

The only problem on May 10th is that if they start singing we may never get rid of them - until we sing our club song

All members (especially older ones who can remember that far back are welcome to go down memory lane)are more than welcome on the day.

Bath's final Guiness Premier match of the season away to Gloucester will be shown live on the club's big screen

It is recommended that cars are left at home this day or collected Sunday morning.

Guests speakers are our 'old friend'John Mathews from Stothert & Pitt Bowls Club who will propose the toast to the club in his, I am sure usual humurous manner, and Tony Adams, Chairman of Somerset RFU Facilities Committee, who will respond on behalf of the guests to skipper Liam Crooks words of wisdom and season's playing statistics

Let's look forward to another enjoyable evening end of season dinner and presentation of awards and not to many bad heads the next day ... [more]
